LED scoreboards

XL AV designs indoor LED scoreboard systems for gyms, field houses, and athletic rooms. The display is specified with scoring, audio, lighting, and control so game day and weekday events run as one system.

Indoor LED display specified by XL AV

A scoreboard that belongs to the room

An LED scoreboard is not a box on the wall with a clock. It is a 16:9 indoor display with a processor, an operator station, and a path into the rest of the gym: sound, lighting, and how staff actually run a game or an assembly.

XL AV specifies LUXVISION PROLUX Rugged for that work. Canadian-made indoor dvLED, P3.3 or P4, impact-resistant face and trim, full front service. Scoring, stats, timeout video, and sponsor content are layouts on that wall, not a second piece of hardware.

Why this specification holds up

Numeric-only boards do one job well. They do not run presentations, replay, or the rest of the gym calendar. A generic indoor LED wall that was not built for sport will take basketballs poorly and is awkward to service when it sits tight to a structural wall.

PROLUX Rugged is built for impact-prone indoor rooms: quarter-turn metal-to-metal modules, fanless Mean Well supplies, onsite spare modules, and a 7-year warranty context that includes air-inflated sports-ball impact. XL AV is the integrator. We survey, specify, install, commission, and train.

Lighting

Gym lighting is bright, mixed, and often left on for PE. The wall has to remain readable in that light. PROLUX Rugged pixels capable of about 3,900 nits are operated around 2,100 nits, which keeps heat and electrical load in a practical range. Lighting scenes for game, timeout, assembly, and open gym are part of the drawing when the room has (or needs) control.

Sound

Clock horns, PA, program audio, and speech for assemblies belong with the scoreboard. XL AV specifies loudspeakers, DSP, and the operator path with the display when audio is in scope. If the room already has a sound system, we integrate it.

Control

Game day fails when score, video, audio, and lights each have their own remote. We specify a control path so an operator can run score and clock, take a timeout look, and play program audio without calling a technician. LUXVISION typically uses NovaStar processing. Staff are trained at commissioning.

How we deliver the project

We start with the room: dimensions, viewing distance, how it is used, structure, power, and whether audio, lighting, and live video are in the project. Then a specification, coordination with the facilities team, installation, commissioning, and operator training. Spare modules stay on site so a failed cabinet is swapped, not left dark.

Typical uses

  • Varsity scoring, clock, and shot-clock graphics
  • Timeout video, player introductions, and sponsor rotations
  • PE, assemblies, graduations, and community events
  • Replay and live camera when the facility wants them

PROLUX Rugged

The indoor wall

Impact-resistant face and trim

A protective LED mask keeps air-inflated sports balls off the diodes. Micro-grooves help perceived contrast. Perimeter trim protects edges as part of the mechanical design.

Quarter-turn metal-to-metal modules

Earlier rugged products could lose magnetic modules on a hard hit. PROLUX Rugged uses a quarter-turn metal-to-metal interlock so modules stay on the wall and still service from the front.

7-year sports-impact warranty

Current PROLUX Rugged warranty context is 7 years, including impact from air-inflated sports balls.

Full front service

Modules, cabling, and feeder access are designed from the front. That is required when a gym display is mounted tight to a wall with no rear aisle.

Fanless thermal design

Gyms collect dust. Fans ingest that dust and then fail. PROLUX Rugged uses the cabinet as a heat sink with Mean Well supplies. There is no cooling fan in the documented architecture.

Under-driven, efficient LEDs

Pixels capable of about 3,900 nits are operated around 2,100 nits. The intent is less heat and less electrical infrastructure than driving the diodes to their maximum.

  • Canadian-made PROLUX Rugged indoor dvLED
  • Known pitches: P3.3 and P4
  • Cabinets: 1280 by 720 mm (~58") and 1600 by 900 mm (~72"), both 16:9
  • Common 16:9 walls from about 116" to 347" diagonal by arraying cabinets
  • Operating brightness about 2,100 nits (LED capability ~3,900 nits, under-driven)
  • Up to 16-bit colour and ~4,200 Hz refresh in the documented generation
  • Fanless Mean Well power supplies; no hub-board architecture
  • 7-year warranty context including air-inflated ball impact

Questions

What size scoreboard do we need?

Size follows farthest viewing distance and whether score, clock, and video share the canvas. XL AV maps that from the room, not from a stock cabinet count.

Can the same wall run games and school events?

Yes. Scoring is a layout on the LED wall. Assemblies, presentations, and rentals use the same canvas. Control is specified so staff can switch those modes.

Do you specify audio and lighting with the scoreboard?

When the room needs them, yes. Buzzer, PA, program audio, and lighting scenes are designed with the wall so game day is one system. Say so in the inquiry.

Is this an indoor product?

LUXVISION PROLUX Rugged is an indoor gym platform. Weather-exposed stadium faces use a different LUXVISION family.
